Rendezvous Cinema Cambridge
Auditorium of new rebuilt Rendezvous showing front stage and an important addition the Compton organ having illuminated console, complete with bells and carillons. In 1949 this organ was sold to Folkestone Pleasure Gardens cinema, (which was closed and demolished in 1964) by the new owner George Webb a haulage contractor who had purchased the Rendezvous in 1948 changing the name to Rex cinema. Webb sold the Rex in April 1967 to Abbey Sports Club. In 1970 70mm films were introduced, two years later poor business saw the Rex put on the market again, however, this time there were no buyers and the Rex remained empty until it was purchased by Cambridgeshire County Council and demolished in 1979.
