While Gigli does sing Ave Maria to his his once-spurned woman, this is in no way a religious film. And as a German film made during the Nazi era, it has some shocking examples of racist language and a scene in which the woman is shown “cavorting” with a black man (the n- word is used in a subtitle) to illustrate her supposed infidelity. I re-watched it yesterday in its Italian-dubbed version.
