Gaumont Cinema Norwich
Photograph taken during demolition of the Gaumont Norwich September 1960. This picture shows much of the construction during 1929 by J.Owen Bond Architect for the enlargement of the auditorium, stage and additional dressing rooms, organ chambers for the new Compton Organ. Extra land purchased on right also all the foreground now cleared. All that remains of the original splay walls are the pair of tall fluted columns which have been engulfed by the extra seating, extending the circle out together with the stalls beneath to where the orchestra pit and stage were originally. Additionally a new joined section of roof covers the dressing room block partially exposed. Whether or not the additional organ chambers were situated below or above the new stage is not known.
