Gaumont Palace Doncaster
Restaurant photograph taken at opening, the circular dome floods extra daylight into the central area. The Gaumont chairs at this period were most uncomfortable to use because of the French caned back wooden central support pressing into a customers back. After several years of complaints upholsterers were engaged to make changes throughout the circuits restaurants. The backs were replaced by padded backs to match those of the seats. Normally Gaumont ‘Insignature’ carpet would be fitted to the entire interior, however, on this occasion it appears not to be the case and the carpet design shown above appears to be more suitable for the auditorium with its matching side walls. Was a mistake made here!!!
