Hoyts Mortdale 124 Railway Parade, Mortdale, NSW
Mortdale is a small suburb about 12 miles south of Sydney’s cbd. It was named for Thomas Sutcliffe Mort, a pioneering industrialist. The first films here were shown in an open air theatre until the Paramount Theatre was opened in 1928.
It was owned by the Kennedy family who also had the South Hurstville Paramount Theatre. In 1950 Hoyts took over, dropping the Paramount name. This Hoyts was closed in 1959 and a few years later converted to a supermarket. It has since been demolished - Notes by john gleeson
