Located in the north Melbourne suburb of North Coburg. The Coburg Drive-In opened 25th November 1965 with Sean Connery in “Marnie” and Ernest Borgnine in “McHale’s Navy”.
Taken over by Hoyts Theatres chain in 1967, it was closed in 1984. Reopened as a twin-screen in 1987, as a joint venture between Hoyts and Village Theatres. A third screen was added in 1995 and it has a capacity for 850 cars.
The Village Triple Drive-In is one of the most successful drive-in theatres operating in Australia. It is only one of two to still be operating in the Melbourne suburbs, the other being the Lunar Drive-In, in Dandenong to the south of the city - Notes by Ken Roe
