The history of The Wondergraph theatre / which became the Civic / finally the State
Located in the centre of Adelaide. The Wondergraph Theatre was opened on 5th September 1913. It was designed by architects Garlick & Jackman and had an ornate ‘Temple of Dreams’ facade.
It was re-named Civic Theatre/New Civic Theatre from 1932 until 1957. Rebuilt to include CinemaScope and air conditioning, it reopened as the State Theatre, which closed in May 1977.
