Civic Theatre 48-50 George Street, Sydney, NSW - Previously on this location was Bennington’s Picture Palace
Bennington’s Picture Palace opened on 19/3/1910. Closed in 1923 and was demolished for a larger theatre. Within a years it would be replaced by Parramatta Cinema Ltd’s new Parramatta Cinema No. 1 (later renamed the Civic Theatre) at 48-50 George Street opened on 14/10/1924
The Bennington Picture Palace at 34 George Street, Parramatta, was built by Albert and Samuel Bennington, who were also the cinema’s proprietors and directors. The cinema opened on 19 March 1910 with ‘The Sign of the Cross’
