Detail of a larger photo of Hawthorne Blvd, taken Sept. 30, 1921. The Frances Building stands at center, with two prominent multi-globe lighting standards at the curb. Barely visible on the facacde of the building is the marquee for the Echo Theater’s Hawthorne Street entrance.
Note that the building housing the Cochran Cider Co. and Red Cap Battery would be replaced by the Bagdad Theater in 1927. This new theater quickly eclipsed the smaller, silent playhouse, which closed by 1929.
