Mini Drive-In

This illustration ran in the Modern Theatre Buyers Directory in the Aug. 28, 1972 issue of Boxoffice. It showed a proposed second generation version of the autoscope, then promoted by “Reat Younger’s Mini-Art Operating Co., headquartered in Joplin, Mo.” This picture might be in the public domain, or it might be copyrighted by the architect or whoever. Anyway, here’s the accompanying caption:

At left is an artist’s concept of the new TRAD-200 drive-in theatre. Two rows of individual screens are shown in the drawing, but up to three rows can be used if the land at the site is suitable. Screens are 54 inches wide. Special radio transmitter is used to broadcast the sound which is picked up on the patron’s car radio. By using the car radio, speakers and posts are eliminated and the patron receives quality sound. Show is projected from a TRAD film transport system, and booth is completely automated. Single building shown in drawing contains boxoffice, concession stand, restrooms, projection booth and an indoor theatre which will seat 40 to 60 patrons. The indoor theatre has an 8x11-foot screen, and both the indoor and outdoor units are service by the same projection system.
