Located at 9th and Market St., Mt. Carmel, IL, from the 1930’s until early 60’s. Demolished mid 60’s, replaced by a car wash, and later by a CVS Pharmacy.
I have to take issue with Jim Harmon, who posted the general info about the American Theater. It did in fact run Saturday afternoon matinees. I went to several there as a child in Mt. Carmel in the 1950’s. When cinemascope movies began to be shown, it was decided that it would be too expensive to widen the screen at the American, so the Uptown Theater screen was widened, and the American was closed.
