The 'Cinema' Sevenoaks
Here is a very futuristic auditorium. Hidden coved lighting traverses from the edge of the left organ chamber grille across the proscenium to the edge of the right chamber. Below the outer closed stage curtains are decorated with an appliqué design. The Compton organ is raised on lift from the centre of orchestra pit, the illuminated console and seat were designed by Head Designer, Charles Theobalds of F. H. Pride of Clapham London, who also manufactured the reeded glass. Finally the ceiling flying saucer was a marvel of design for this period and 42 years before E. T. landed !!! Was this saucer lowered to change the light bulbs? All fibrous plaster works including flying saucer was carried out by David Esdaile, Plaster Decoration Co. Ltd. London.
