The 'Cinema' Sevenoaks
Architect David Nye (1904 -1986) was responsible for designing seventeen cinemas between November 1935 and November 1939. Many were for Shipman & King whose interiors were created by Mollo & Egan also independent exhibitors engaged Nye because he kept the cost of building down to around £12 a seat. His first cinema to open on Tuesday 4th November 1935 was aptly named the ‘Cinema’ in Sevenoaks, built for the Sevenoaks Cinema Company.
