The Athenaeum Hall, Melbourne [advertising a lecture by Rev. Haskett Smith] - 1895

In this 1895 photograph of the building, the advertising banner on the front announces a series of lectures to be given by the Rev. Haskett Smith. According to information provided by Haskett Smith’s great grandson, he was a missionary in the Middle East for many years and following his retirement travelled the world to tell of his experiences, describing the land, its architecture, history and people. His lectures were illustrated with slides of his own photographs.
