Gert Roewer writes - I worked there for a couple of years with several of my mates taking orders from cars for food and drinks. We wore the white overalls and maroon beret. Sometimes when doing our rounds of the cars we would interrupt a couple at very inopportune moments. If they got abusive, which happened frequently we would tell the other boys and then the poor couple had to put up with a several knocks on their window and a different boy each time saying, “Would you like any car service?” Sometimes the infuriated guys would get out of their car and chase us around the rows with murder in their hearts. We were very mischievous and would get a good laugh out of it. At interval we served behind the counters. It was really hectic. At knock off time after interval there were often lots of hamburgers left over and we were allowed to take them home and eat them, sometimes I would scoff half a dozen on the way home. The boss of the restaurant was Joe Porta. Jim Robinson ran the theatre. All the staff were like one big happy family. I was 15-16 years old.
