Odeon Cinema Leicester Square
The Odeon cinema was designed by cinema architect Andrew Mather who collaborated with Charles Theobald head designer of F. H. Pride Ltd., who designed and manufactured the illuminated consoles for all of the John Compton organs. Mather and Theobalds harmonised the console design with the original spectacular Art Deco reliefs on the splay walls of the auditorium. Eventually being named the ‘Duchess’ by organists that were engaged to record on this Compton including Ena Baga and the three resident organists. The back being curved and glazed the console was made to rise up backwards and then turn at the top of the lift, an effect which galvanised the audiences of the time.
