Pines Theatre

Three non-theatrical photos but important for the founding of Maplewood during WW2. The top shot shows that the tires of the machines were mired in clay and mud. So mules had to be brought in to establish the dirt roads.

Dirt roads because there was a finite amount of concrete and a decision was made to use it on the parking lot and the sidewalks of town in the middle shot.

And the bottom shot showed a very young community aimed which was built around females (and their families) as they would be the chemists taking the classes and working at Cities Services during the War of 90 cents an hour with 48 hour work weeks. The theatre and the swimming pool were the leisure places in town for those young families.
