Capitol Cinema Epsom
Above Capitol Restaurant being one of the first to have tubular steel furniture in England, which was also to receive wide and favourable coverage from the press for the restaurant furniture which was manufactured by the French company Thonet and designed by Marcel Breuer. Thonet opened their first showroom during 1929 at 52 Great Eastern Street London. (1) Chairs were made of steel but not welded being joined by a special method; (2) chromium instead of nickel plating was used, resulting in a brighter and more lasting finish; (3) canvas seats and backs in the chairs did not sag, a special attachment being added to stop this; (4) cold metal was prevented touching the user by the addition of polished wood fittings. Decorations by Winn & Co., Knightsbridge. The Restaurant had its own separate double door entrance on the front right side of the cinema.
