This long narrow theatre, just 17 seats across, opened as the Melba Theatre on 8th June 1911. The interior was remodeled in a simple Art Deco style in 1939 to the plans of architect Aaron M. Bolot, and renamed the Liberty Theatre. It was operated by the Greater Union Theatres chain.

The Melba theatre was destroyed by a fire in October 1950 and a new theatre built within the shell, reopening as the Odeon Theatre in November 1951. The theatre closed in February 1978.
