Dustin Hoffman--Number Four Box Office Star (1969) / 15 Weeks Run

“Midnight Cowboy” had its first appearance in Columbus, Ohio as a first-run exclusive engagement at Loews Morse Road; opening on August 13, 1969 and concluding on November 25, 1969. The film was immediately moved over to Loews Arlington on November 26, 1969 and concluded there four weeks and one day later on December 24, 1969. “Midnight Cowboy” was the most honored “X”-rated movie ever made; it won the Oscar for Best Picture. This was also the heyday of major studio X-rated films, and they petered out after a few years. Interestingly, the movie that preceded “Midnight Cowboy” at the Loews Morse Road theater was “True Grit” with John Wayne winning the Oscar for Best Actor. Source: Columbus Dispatch, August 13, 1969
