St. James Theatre
Windows to Elizabeth Street in upstairs foyer with a somewhat upmarket Candy Bar featuring rather expensive looking boxes of chocolates. When I went to see “Ben-Hur” in 1960 there was a strange lady sitting in the cordoned off covered seat section down the front. At Interval she went out and ‘obtained’ a packet of Peppermint Cream chocolates and generously shared them with children sitting nearby. I later learned that she was a famous Sydney eccentric named Bea Miles (1902-1973). I say ‘obtained’ because she was famous for not paying for goods and services, so maybe I partook in an illegally gotten treat?
