St. James Theatre
MGM’s $4m “The Yearling” (1946) ‘in living Technicolor’ was promoted as the first major international production to world premiere in Australia. As with GWTW it opened at both the St James and Liberty. There was no apparent reason for the decision to launch it here, and none of the stars attended. Perhaps Metro were short of a Xmas attraction for Down Under and brought forward its release here to Friday 13 December 1946. Colorized newspaper advertisement.
