Tonight I was watching the great French mystery thriller, “Diabloqie”. It was made in 1955 and the
star was Simone Signoret. The first time I saw this film
was at the Ascot Theatre. At that time (late 1950’s), it was the only Bronx theatre showing foreign films. The movie was shown on a Saturday night with two seatings. My date and I went to the second seating. As we waited for the audience from the first showing to leave the theatre, we could tell from the expression on their faces and their comments that we would be in for an exciting movie experience. Well,we nearly fainted when the villain emerged from the bathtub after being drown by his wife and mistress. It was quite an evening, and I will always remember the Ascot for that
movie experience.
Do you have any Ascot memories to share?

I’m glad I was able to visit a few times during the porn era. It had a large auditorium. I was hopeful, until reading this, that it might re-open.
