The Glen Cinema, Paisley, Scotland ca1929 - Children posing outside the shuttered cinema, almost certainly after the fire that killed over 70 children in 1929 - you’ve got to ask why!

Yes, I wondered that too! In fact, I have a copy of this photo that was cut from a book and the higher resolution shows that the taller of the four girls had a huge grin on her face! These children look very well dressed so they were probably not amongst the cinemas usual clientele.
The cinema was closed after the disaster on Hogmany, 1929 so, yes, this photo was probably taken after the disaster.
People are ghoulish and thoughtless. On the web I’ve seen ‘holiday’ photos of people standing on the railway lines leading to Auschwitz. ‘The Crowd’ was being shown in the evenings at the Glen at the time of the fateful children’s matinee. The photo shows the gates which were at the centre of the subsequent ‘culpable homicide’ trial. It was alleged they were locked closed. The manager was found not guilty.
