“Traces of Texas reader Lizzie Skurnick was so kind as to share this extraordinary historical photo. Says Lizzie: "I wanted to send you a photo I found in my family files and had restored. This is a previously unseen picture of C.F. Richardson, publisher and civil rights icon. Clifton Frederick Richardson was the publisher of the Houston Informer, a pioneering paper that covered everything from lynchings to politics to society events, and was sold as far away as the Cafe de Paris in London. As an activist and the founder of Houston’s NAACP chapter, he was a target of continual KKK intimidation and harassment. He was also a plaintiff in the suit that eventually led to black citizens being allowed to vote in Texas' Democratic Primaries. When he died, his funeral procession was the longest in Houston’s history. His other publication, the Houston Defender, is still sold today!”

Thank you, Lizzie. What a remarkable artifact to own!
