The Disney comedy was the first NEW booking for the Ziegfeld since the theatre debuted with “Marooned” in December of the previous year. After a disappointing roadshow experience with “Marooned,” the Ziegfeld had offered a series of revivals, most recently with the two-part Russian version of “War and Peace.”

There was nothing disappointing about the short-term special hard ticket contract with Columbia Pictures. All terms were successfully completed. The MGM 70mm presentations, that was offered by the company to theatres throughout North America, was booked with special separated playdates. 20th-Fox agreed to include its 70mm product with the MGM offerings in a single ad campaign. The Reade/Continental owned presentation of WAR AND PEACE (1968) was a “pure profit” exhibition of the 35mm “scope”(2.35:1 aspect ratio) with optical variable area monaural sound. This data culled from the Walter Reade archived files dated September 23, 1974. The 35mm print of WAR AND PEACE exists and is archived. Of interest: The video transfers of this product 1982/1993, Beta and VHS formats, was created from a 16mm “scanned” reduction print offered by Walter Reade 16, the non-theatrical division of Continental Distributing (Andrew Sager head of Walter Reade 16).
