Metro Theatre 99 William Street, Perth, WA

Tribute - Today I had framed a piece of nostalgia that belonged to my younger brother, he was a Projectionist, who passed away in 2019. This is the actual glass price list, heavy glass at that, that hung in the old Metro Theatre in William street, and was changed obviously when decimalisation took hold, yes that day - hey be nice if that was the pricelist today.

James Anfuso writes - Fabulous piece of Perth movie history Chris - so many fond memories of the Metro. Did Phil ever work the Metro or did that close before he started work?

Christopher Lawrence Preedy responds to James Anfuso - Phil worked there, as well as the Mayfair, the Plaza, the Cinecentre, the Savoy, and others, but can you remember the Town Cinema in Hay Street. Phil also did a few drive-ins but his favourite was the Metro in Innaloo, it was HUGE in his/my day it had more car spots than any of them. I think he did a stint at the Wirinna in Morley but i can’t vouch for that. He spent his whole life in the dark and now ironically, he’s gone to the dark forever, and he was only 64. Sad!

Judy O'Sullivan writes - My mother was an Usherette at the old metro theatre during the 2nd world war.

She had wonderful memories of working there . When a particular movie was showing for example Gone With The Wind. Then the usherettes dressed up like the ladies in the movies.
