Photograph of Architect Frank Ernest Bromige of the Dominion cinema. This was to be his first and although the façade was a new design for its time the interior was still a mixed style of Empire and more suitable for theatre. However, Bromige went on to build a total of sixteen cinemas during the 1930’s six of which were to be named ‘Dominion’ and his next cinema at Hounslow was to be given that name. As a brand new building Bromige had a free hand to design in the Art Deco style, which opened on 28th December 1931. Undoubtedly his finest cinema design was the Dominion Harrow, a masterpiece of cinema construction opening 9th January 1936. During the early 1960’s ABC who were then the owners covered the entire Façade of the building with metal cladding, thereby saving the building’s 1930’s design. Now removed and restored to Bromige’s original concept.
