Avoca Beach Picture Theatre 69 Avoca Drive, Avoca Beach, NSW - 1977 in the beginning.
Paul Brennan writes - Avoca Beach Theatre 1977, Central Coast NSW, when I reopened it for that Summer: same hideous ex Manly Century 1951 lumpy seats, Bedsheet Cinemascope, holes (lower RHS) hidden by a sheet of paper..no heating or cooling and outdoor dunnies (seat on a tub)..Feature lattice and wobbly masonite sheet exit doors.
We were so broke, but by Jan 10 were swimming in Holiday cash and delighted customers. We changed double feature EVERY night. I was 22, what fun we had.
TRIBUTE - At age 19 Paul Brennan leased the Avoca, which was ruined and sodden from storm damage and saved it from demolition.
Paul would spend 17 years turning it into a well maintained and loved local treasure. The foyer was filled with photos, posters and souvenirs from the glory days of theatres like the Plaza, the Summer Hill Grosvenor and the Capitol…souvenirs like the three red Metro seats.
