The Alexandria was a very large neighborhood cinema. The UA Coronet up the street long gone was the main theatre for 70mm Todd-AO in SF. It opened with ‘Oklahoma’ on the Coronets huge deep curved Todd-AO screen with curtains. When SF UA ran out of room they moved 70mm projectors down the street to the Alexandria but did not put in a nice true Todd-AO curved screen for ‘South Pacific’ in 70mm. They just ran most of their roadshow 70mm Todd-AO advertised films on their semi curved CinemaScope® screen. If Mike Todd was still around I don’t think he would have liked what they did in SF CA for this second 70mm so called Todd-AO house at the UA Alexandria Theatre. At least they had curtains that opened and closed. The stereo sound was ok as they had surround speakers located way up high and It was a large house.
