Rosele Theatre

I lived directly behind the Rosele as a kid in the 60s and have many fond memories of time spent there. The first movie I saw there was ‘Shenandoah’, with James Stewart, when I was 8 years old. I went alone and sitting in that huge auditorium by myself left an impression. Back in the days of continuous screening, I saw many a double feature multiple times at one sitting. I’m still not over the experience of watching ‘Night Of the Living Dead’ back-to-back in ‘68.

The owner of the Rosele operated many theaters in the city and the popcorn was delivered to them by a van in huge, 3' tall plastic bags. Once, some friends and I saw the van in the rear of the theater making a delivery with the rear doors wide open. With one acting as a lookout, we pinched a whole bag and made a beeline to some nearby sand dunes where we ate ourselves sick.
