Regal Cinema Camberwell

Photograph June 1940 the Regal was designed by Architect Leslie Kemp in 1937 and originally named the “Florida” a large 2,600 seater cinema, this was the last and largest cinema Kemp designed in the UK. Above is the entrance with the bridge over the stalls entrance similar in design to that of the Havana cinema Romford. The large pendant light fittings were designed by Charles Theobalds Head Designer for F.H. Pride of Clapham. Left of the entrance is the 10ft fibrous plaster Art Deco relief panel the “God of Poetry and Music” supported by Muses. This being designed and manufactured by Clark & Fenn, also of Clapham. Picture from the Leslie Kemp Collection.
