Parking lot and theatre ruins

To the Right can be seen the surviving portion of the Right auditorium sidewall, and to the Left, the stage house. The Capitol was well preserved up until its closing. I knew one of the Assistant Managers from the theatre’s last days, and he showed me an excellent series of slides he took of the interior. The theatre was in remarkable shape. While most would agree that if one were going to save one of Salem’s two grandest theatres it should be the Elsinore–due to its more unique design (and I agree)–it is still a hard pill to swallow that the Capitol was lost for the sake of a handful of parking spaces, three trees, a low brick wall and some bushes.
