The movies are back, baby!

In great news for western suburbs cinephiles, Mosman Park’s Camelot Outdoor Cinema has been brought back from the brink of closure, following a string of noise complaints last year that threatened to close the theatre permanently.

Luna Palace Cinemas, who managed Camelot’s film program for 22 years, announced back in October 2023 that they would not be returning to the cinema for the 2023/2024 summer season:

“Due to the noise restrictions implemented in the area, we are unable to screen our films at a reasonable volume and deliver the quality viewing experience that our customers have come to expect and deserve.”

Following the news, a wave of local support saw nearly 5500 signatures on a petition to save the cinema.

Noise restrictions have been addressed by patrons wearing noise cancelling, silent disco-style headphones with individual adjustable volumes.

Perth Festival has also lent the cinema an $80,000 DCP projector which had been in storage since the closure of outdoor cinema Joondalup Pines, while Fringe World and Rooftop Movies organisers Artrage will be assisting with programming and distribution.
