Loews opened this theatre March 29, 1972 to compliment the Loews Lauderhill which they had purchased in this fast growing community.
Facing multiplex competition, GCC twinned the Lauderhill in 1975 and twinned the 16th Street in 1982, briefly renaming it the Lauderhill 3 & 4 before selling it off to porn operators.
It ran as the 16th Street X rated theatre at least until 1986.

A correction is needed above. This opened in April 1972 as the Lauderhill II. The deal was most likely made by Loews but sold to GCC before opening.
After the theatre closed, a church moved in; based on a newspaper photo seen at the time, it appeared the divider wall from its twin screen days had been removed.
While the 16th Street Cinema, I did something totally insane, driving through a thunderstorm to see a revival of “2001: A Space Odyssey” despite a bad cold and fever (probably on the last day of its run). My abiding gratitude to the manager who waived the no outside food/drink decree and let me carry in a gallon of orange juice. To be young and stupid again… Small auditorium, but decent conditions for widescreen.
This opened on March 29th, 1972 by Loew’s Theatres. Picture and grand opening ad in the photo section.
