On Tuesday 28th June 1907 The British Cinema Company Ltd opened the Balham Empire. Building contractors J. Thornby & Sons of Croydon were responsible for the exterior and interior works and decorations. Auditorium furnishings and seating upholstery by A.E. Woods of Balham High Road. Culling & Sons of Clapham Junction installed all electric lighting. General Manager Mr Edward Albert Dessent, informed the public that great care is taken in the selection of Living Pictures, also during Winter months the Theatre will be heated and Afternoon Tea will be served during Matinee Intervals.
