Pantages Theatre 6233 Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA - June 19, 1963

The West Coast premiere run of “Cleopatra” opened on June 19, 1963 and ran for 72 weeks into 1964.

Other 70mm Roadshow runs at this period of time were “Tora, Tora, Tora” for 35 weeks, “Patton” for 23 weeks, “Sweet Charity” for 20 weeks and “The Great Race” for 19 weeks.

Thanks film for the photo. It wassad that the RKO Pantages Theatre on Hollywood Blvd had a large flat 70mm screen. Many Todd-AO and D-150 films that were meant for a curved roadshow screen got booked into the Pantages and shown on a flat not curved screen. Just up the street the UA Egyptian Theatre had many types of curved screens over the years. Of all Hollywood cinemas the Egyptian should have shown 2oth Century Fox’s ‘Cleopatra’ on their Todd-AO curved screen. I guess the Pantages people had more booking advance money $ then UA? When Mike Todd died the Todd-AO owners just let all the Todd=AO 70mm prints run on a flat 70mm screen also. Mike would have not have approved of this look.
