Werribee May Soon See Boutique Cinema as Part of City Centre Revamp.
Wyndham TV April 25, 2024 2 min read
Title - Movie Theatre in Werribee
The Werribee City Centre could soon see an exciting addition in the form of a boutique cinema as part of a major redevelopment plan. The Werribee City Centre Structure Plan 2040 aims to deliver the ‘Wyndham 2040 Community Vision’, focusing on revitalizing the area and enhancing its appeal as a destination for residents and visitors alike.
Central to this vision is the transformation of the former Picture Palais Theatre into a modern boutique cinema.
The theatre, which originally opened in 1928 and has served various roles, including its current stint as a Cash Converters, was recently acquired by the council for $4.4 million. This move has sparked interest and discussion among the local community, with many supporting the return of the site to its cultural roots.
The redevelopment plans include not just the cinema but also the creation of a vibrant City Square at Station Place.
This area is currently used as a car park but is envisioned to become a bustling hub for the community, featuring green spaces, tree canopies, and multiple attractions.
Further enhancing the area, Barnes Place and Palais Lane are set to be revitalized into pedestrian-friendly laneways, lined with cafes and restaurants. This redevelopment aims to complement the existing Watton and Synnot Street Sub-precinct, which is already set for significant mixed-use development.
