The Roxy cinema opened on Monday 9th August 1937. Previously on the same site. 1872 Royalty Music Hall, 1875 renamed Alhambra Theatre, 1909 reverted back to Royalty Theatre which was demolished in 1936. The New Roxy cinema contractors were Rainey Brothers.
