This building has been used as the Astor Theatre, Denny’s Clothing Store, Bargain Market and now Impresario Theatre.

Evidently The Astor was built by my grandfather. Dad also worked here as a projectionist in his teens. He used to tell a story about later on during the American soldier influx, he’d been in the city and coming home on a train when the train was delayed around Rockbank. Soldiers already seated and waiting for their flix were getting antsy so a regimental car was sent to Rockbank to pick Dad up and get him to the cinema to get things rolling. Not sure if I’ve got that 100% right.
