Piccadilly Theatre

This 1932 aerial view shows the roof of the Piccadilly Theatre, which is dotted with skylights over offices underneath. There is a large longitudinal skylight on the axis of the building, which illuminates a two-storeys-deep light-well for the windows of offices arranged around it. The ceiling of the auditorium is two floors below the roof at that point. Towards the front of the building, the ceiling over the upper circle is one storey down from the roof.

Notice the cut-off rear left corner. This is the cause of the seating asymmetry mentioned elsewhere. A six-seat wide block of stalls seats faced that in-stepping wall!

The canopy (USA: marquee) seen here in 1928, was not there when the cinema opened.
