Victory Theatre

The Blackheath theater had been closed for several months over winter 1934 after Betts departed, with Gallagher’s original lease expiring in August. After a fit-out with new RCA Photophone sound and other improvements, it was re-opened Saturday 25th August 1934 with the RKO musical “Flying Down To Rio”. The venue was run by Katoomba Empire manager Peter Dawson in a special independent deal he had arranged with B M Amusements. In January 1935 the Delaney family sold the theater to Michael Gearin. After Dawson left town in 1936 Katoomba Theatres (B M Amusements) continued to run the cinema with a new lease from Gearin.
