Merrylands Hoyts Kinema

The Merrylands Butterfly was proclaimed as a theater on 20 May 1921. Initial function held there had been a church fete on April 22/23. The first film screening was on Saturday 30 April. Original policy was movies on Saturdays and Wednesdays interspersed with various other activities such as political meetings, church services, concerts, euchre parties, dances, etc. Exhibitor was Harry Mainsbridge – a builder/plumber who had moved with his family to Parramatta in 1909, opening the Butterfly Theater next to the railway station there on 18 May 1910.
