Notes by Diana Sampson. - The Cascade Drive-In in Burnaby, 1951. It was built along the Grandview Highway (4050 Grandview Hwy) and was B.C.’s first drive-in theatre. It was started by George and William Steele and Joe and Art Johnson (Steele-Johnson Amusements Ltd.) in 1946, opening in the month of August. Source: Vintage Air Photos In 1949, the featured attraction was the 1948 film “The Noose Hangs High” starring Bud Abbott and Lou Costello.

The novelty eventually wore off, and closed in 1980. It was the first of its kind in Canada and became a Burnaby landmark - Notes by Diana Sampson.
