Palace Theatre 255 Pitt Street, Sydney, NSW
Palace Theatre - Located on Pitt Street the theatre was built in 1896 by George Adams adjacent to his Tattersall’s Hotel. Starting out with, vaudeville and variety productions, it would spend most of its life as a cinema, later under the Hoyts banner. It’s original Moorish decor was updated in 1923 but retained much of its picture-palace opulence.
The Palace closed as a cinema in January 1970 with “Skippy and the Intruders”, and after brief stage use it was demolished later in the same year for construction of the Hilton Hotel.
