Hoyts De-Luxe November 1938 (screening “Gold Diggers in Paris”). Although not installed at the time of opening, the elaborate FOH lighting system shown here was already planned and described in the Melbourne Herald 26 March 1915: ‘Electric Rocket Sign … consists of a rocket on each side of the building which, lighting up at the cantilever level, runs up towards the roof, and once above it, turns over, and bursting throws out hundreds of stars, which differ in magnitude and colour.’
