Beautiful building. They cladded it in metal siding in the 70’s which was ugly and then razed it in 1980 if I remember correctly, and both are typical of Detroit. I only remember going to one movie there in 1978 to see saturday night fever which I can’t believe I was into at the time looking back lol.
…….I was just thinking of how unkind the 80’s was to Detroit. Many historic buildings were either razed or closed in that decade which includes right off the top of my head this theatre, Zeigler hospital, Olympia Stadium, the Fleetwood/Body By Fisher plant on Fort St., the Uniroyal plant, and they closed Hudsons downtown, The Book Cadillac Hotel, and Michigan Central Station.
My first concert was playing The Kramer Theater on August 10, 1977 with The MC-5 and The Sillies. The main floor was full. I produced another concert there in December and one in July ‘78. It was a great theater with a great stage which Danny Thomas had performed on many years before.
