Photograph of the Regent auditorium taken prior to opening in 1935. Stepped grilles surround the proscenium concealing the organ chambers. The splay walls feature imitation side boxes which had several purposes, above were gold marine panels which featured fish swimming amongst coloured coral and sea urchins, below the curved base hid the decorative lighting which illuminated the panels above. A pair of Regent clocks were recessed into these frontages each side, see following photograph. Mollo used this marine design for many other of their cinema interiors namely, Plaza West Wickham, Embassy Braintree, Princess Dagenham and Majestic Reigate. The raised Christie organ with illuminated console was played regularly at the Regent until its removal in 1973.
