17 December 1962 Marlon Brando (with his co-star girlfriend Tarita) paused briefly at Sydney Airport on their way from Bora Bora to the 22 December Tokyo launch of “Mutiny on the Bounty”. (That’s him signing my autograph book – that’s me on the left). He said he was hoping to return for the Sydney opening too. Turned out ‘cricket tragic’ Trevor Howard, in Australia for the Ashes Tests, attended the St James premiere with the Australian and English captains on 17 January 1963. The film ran for 27 weeks.
