Broadway Theatre 330 Albany Highway, Victoria Park, WA - The photo features the front foyer & stairway to the Lounge.

Back in the 40’s there were three theatres in the Vic Park area, however The Broadway was the flag ship & certainly the most popular. The photo you are looking at features the foyer and stairway to the lounge/dress circle. My Grandfather used to take me to the Wed Ranch Nights at The Broadway, and I recall there was a practice of placing large life size promotional cut-outs at the top of the stairs. One in particular (1950) that sticks in memory was Betty Hutton in “Annie Get Your Gun” - there she was, full size & beautiful, with a six gun in each hand. (funny what sticks in memory) “Annie Get Your Gun” was from MGM and also starred Howard Keel. The Broadway did huge business with this film. Saturday night excited patrons were lined up down the street trying to buy tickets. This was a time, the wonderful era of the Picture Palace - Contributed by Greg Lynch -
